Pocket-sized Echocardiography with Vscan
Professor Sutherland explains how Vscan will revolutionize ultrasound applications in cardiology.
To date ultrasound exams have involved large machines, either wheeled to a patients bedside or installed in an echolab where patients are brought for transthoracic or transesophageal echocardiograms. Now there is a third option. The new Vscan from GE Healthcare is a hand-held, pocket-sized ultrasound device which cardiologists can carry with them at all times, enabling ultrasound to be integrated into any initial examination procedure. Professor George Sutherland of St. Georges Hospital in London uses the Vscan daily. We asked why he believes Vscan will change the face of echocardiography (video).
